Well, Tom is my uncle, and no I think they might have been houseparents for a school in Ivory Coast during their first term overseas, but at least for the last ten years now they have actually been, for lack of a better word, “real” missionaries living in remote villages in Ivory Coast and Mali. However, I would argue that even the school that they did supervise at was very much unlike any boarding school in North America, and that comes from personal experience on my part. But yes, I would agree on your statement regarding the image of a missionary.
